About

I am a conservative libertarian who wants to win the GWOT.  I used to be a scientist, but now I’m an engineer.  What’s that mean?  It means theory is nice, understanding is nice, but what’s important is “does it work?”

i like your blog.. you have so many good arguments, they might win me over if i were liberal.. and if i didn’t feel insulted by some of them, which I might, if i were liberal. Take care.

    Hi Annie,

Thanks for the nice complements. The problem I see is that modern “liberalism” is about identity and feelings, rather than reason, logic, or ideas. As such, it doesn’t matter what I say, or how I say it, the chance of anything I say “getting” to a liberal is essentially null.

The most recent presidential campaign is a strong case in point. I had multiple conversations with liberals that went like this:

Lib: I don’t like Sarah Palin because of X, Y, and Z. So I’m going to vote for Obama.

Me: X, Y, and Z are all false. Here’s why. [Links, details, quotes showing why they were wrong, and / or why, if that was really an issue, Obama / Biden were worse.]

Lib: Why are you talking about X, Y, and Z? They’re not important. And I’m voting for Obama.

When your primary focus is “identity”, and it revolves around skin color, or else showing the “proper” social signals, you are unreachable by reason and logic. So I go for mockery instead.

If I’d ever met a liberal who was willing to modify his or her beliefs based upon facts, reason, or logic, I might change my approach. But I know a lot of liberals, and none of them give a damn about any of those things. All that matters is their feelings, and their display of the proper status symbols.
